Ryan Johnson Signs for 2026

The Kentucky Barrels are incredibly excited to start building out in the trenches with the signing of professional veteran Ryan Johnson Sr. Johnson has spent time with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL and with the Memphis Showboats of the UFL. He is the first player with NFL experience to sign with the Barrels for the 2026 Arena Football Season.

"Being able to get a player and person of Ryan's caliber is great for this organization," said Coach Cedric Walker. "He can play all three positions and has NFL EXPERIENCE. Additionally, he is a great family man and a great man of character."

Ryan Johnson is a veteran of multiple professional football teams and leagues. After graduating from Youngstown State in 2024, Johnson spent time in camp and preseason with both the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson played in preseason games for the Bucs and later spent time with the Memphis Showboats of the UFL. He also played for the Massachusetts Pirates during the 2025 season.

As a multiple-year starter for Youngstown State and a professional veteran, Johnson has played across the offensive line throughout his playing career, and that versatility lends itself well to Arena Football. With his mix of outdoor and indoor experience, Johnson will help build out a strong offensive unit for the Barrels in 2026.

"Always stay ready," said Ryan Johnson. "It's better to prepare for an opportunity you don't have than have an opportunity you're not prepared for."

Ryan Johnson and the Kentucky Barrels are bringing professional football to Kentucky and will kick off their 2026 season this spring at Truist Arena! Season Tickets are now on Sale and can be purchased via Truist Arena.
